Canary seed (flat seed) is mainly grown in the USA, Argentina, Canada, Southern Europe, Spain, Hungary and Morocco. In the Netherlands it is sometimes sown on a small scale. Depending on the country of origin is the white seed, coarse or fine, dull or shiny, fine or coarse fibrous seed coat. Canary seed is essentially a kleinzadige cereal seed whose core is not white, as the name would suggest, but brown.
